Top tips on making a good application

We get quite a few applications from those just starting out the job market, so if you don't have too much experience with job applications, here are a few top tips from our HR manager on how to improve your application:

Write a short, clear CV.

A 1 page CV is ideal. 2 pages should be the maximum; a 3 page CV will usually not be read.

The reviewer will initially spend 3-5 minutes skimming an application so try to focus on what is important and leave out unnecessary details. We want to see who you are, so make the CV personal and avoid platitudes.

Key details such as dates of university/jobs/projects/grades and your contact details are obviously necessary – without this it is hard to gauge your progress.

Tailor your CV to the job.

You should avoid sending in your standard CV as that would give the impression that you are looking for any job. It should be evident from your CV that you really want this job and have worked towards it. Work experience that is not really relevant for the job can be stated but avoid using too much space to elaborate here - it makes it harder for us to see your good points.

Be honest and use evidence.

Keep it real! At Football Radar modesty is an important virtue so avoid boasting or making any claims you can't back up with evidence.

Use a good layout.

The better your layout is the more enjoyable it is to read. Make sure that you list your jobs, education and other relevant experiences clearly. Depending on your computer the layout can shift and change so I recommend that you upload a PDF.
