Leo
Senior Football Analyst
Background
I've always been interested in football, but my passion developed into a career when I realised there were other jobs within football besides playing, coaching or journalism.
Prior to joining Football Radar, I worked for four years as a part-time football analyst at another well-known football statistics company. That was my first job within the field and involved compiling live football statistics on weekday evenings and weekends whilst completing my degree at Goldsmiths University.
The four years I spent as a part-time football analyst gave me the experience and background to progress into a prospective full-time career within football statistics.
Working at Football Radar
When I started my new job at Football Radar in July 2010, I was assigned as an analyst to Italy's Serie A. As an analyst, I was responsible for staying up to date with all of the latest news for every team in the league and producing statistics for each team. I also needed to produce an informed opinion on every player in the league, which was really satisfying, and I felt that the league had become my own within months.
I progressed at a rate that the company was happy with and that led to being given extra responsibilities, such as helping to train new analysts. Within a year of joining the company, I was given a role as a 'Senior Analyst'.
My current role as Senior Analyst involves supervising my team of analysts on Italy's Serie A, France's Ligue 1, Germany's 2.Bundesliga and half of the English Premier League. I also cooperate with the other Senior Analysts to ensure that watching and analysis are running smoothly. I contribute to the development of new features and their implementation for both watching and analysis.
The main aspects of the role that I enjoy are being able to get a good overview of a variety of European football leagues, being able to contribute to future developments within Football Radar, and researching football news. I am a perfectionist by nature and this job is really all about looking for the little details that make our analysis informed and better than the rest.
I think it is fair to say that Football Radar has become a lifestyle to me. I can easily find myself working 70 hours a week, but my hard work has also been rewarded. If you think this is just a place watch football and get paid, you are wrong. For anyone who is truly passionate about researching sources and interpreting the game in an almost scientific way, then this is the place in the industry to be.
