Background
I graduated in 2004 with a BSc in Computer Science. Before Football Radar I worked for a FTSE 250 financial company and two cool internet start-ups. I've always been a bit of a football junkie too, ever since my first Wolves game at the Molineux (we beat Fulham 5-2 in the old Divison 3, Steve Bull hat-trick).
Working at Football Radar
The company has expanded really fast since I started, but it still has the atmosphere of a small start-up. Our IT team is pretty self-organising, and we're all generalists: anyone can work on any project, and everyone works on the whole stack (from the UI right down to the database).
There a couple of cool things about the work we do here. Firstly, everything is connected to football in some way, which, if you're a football fan like me, makes all the day-to-day work much more interesting. Secondly, we actually have lots of interesting projects to work on. We build complicated statistical models, work with large datasets, play with cool new technologies and build useful web applications. There's lots of challenging stuff and lots of new stuff to learn.
I think we all work pretty hard, but in return we get more freedom and flexibility. And some days we just talk about football all day and call it working.
